From the Basement to the Penthouse

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Business New Haven recently honored Basement Systems President Larry Janesky with the title of “Businessperson of the Year,” but they also just published a descriptive feature story on Janesky in their latest issue.

The article, written by Business New Haven staff writer Michael C. Bingham, chronicles Larry’s life from when he graduated high school and immediately began working carpentry jobs, to when he created his own business from the ground up and turned it into a $50 million corporation.

The story also mentions the unique features of the Basement Systems headquarters in Seymour, CT, such as the 1950s-style cafeteria and the Treehouse web department.

Basement Systems Donates to Education Organization

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

Basement Systems recently donated money to DonorsChoose.org, an organization dedicated to addressing the scarcity and inequitable distribution of learning materials and experiences in our public schools.

Teachers from various public schools make requests letting people know what they need and how much of it is needed for their students to have an adequate education.

Basement Systems helped out the Newberry Book Club project by donating money and allowing a teacher to purchase books for her class.

Basement Systems Treehouse Project

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

As the Basement Systems web department grew, company President Larry Janesky knew that department’s work area needed to grow as well. Combining the carpentry, electrician and painting skills of Larry, Basement Systems employees and their friends, what was once just a corner filled with desks has become a mystical playground full of trees, lofts, built-in desks and tunnels.

Workers have put weekend and after-work hours into making the area that formerly fit only 14 work stations fit nearly 30.

Starting in December, the crew worked on the treehouse and completed it before the new year. The web department was able to move in and start the new year in a fresh, creative environment.

For more photos of the finished project, visit the Connecticut Basement Systems blog.

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

In an effort to bring holiday cheer to those less fortunate this season, Basement Systems is working with TEAM, Inc., and the Valley Chamber of Commerce to help out the Valley chapter of Toys for Tots. Basement Systems will act as an official drop-off site for toys and donations, as well as donate a truck to pick up donations from various local organizations such as the post office, banks, daycare centers and other places. John Kay, of Basement Systems, is spearheading the project and has donated his time driving the truck to pick up donated toys for young children and money to go towards gifts for older children and teenagers.

“The older children kind of get left out,” said Kay. He added that those who donate have also given gift certificates to movie theaters or video game stores for older kids and teenagers in need. Last week, Kay took a Basement Systems truck to 20 local businesses and collected toys. (more…)
