Basement Waterproofing Company Takes Energy Efficiency to Another Level

SEYMOUR, CONNECTICUT – It seems that lately the common buzz phrase is “energy efficiency.” Many companies claim that their products and practices are eco-friendly by simply putting a spin on what they have always offered to make them sound safer. Basement Systems has always tried to stay environmentally friendly from inside its company headquarters to the products it sells. Recently, Basement Systems installed solar panels onto the roof of its warehouse to save electricity through solar power.

Basement Systems purchased the solar panels as a way to promote the benefits of operating an eco-friendly business. Aside from having energy-efficient products like an Energy Star-rated SaniDry dehumidifier, and the CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system that keeps humidity out of your home to lower heating and cooling bills, the company headquarters uses energy-saving, light bulbs, motion-detecting lights, and has a department made almost entirely of recycled wood. Installing solar panels seemed like a natural step.

“We are trying to be a green corporate citizen,” said Basement Systems President Larry Janesky. “We hope the technology will advance and bring the price down so everyone can afford it.”

Alteris Renewables, the leading renewable energy systems integrator in the northeast, provided the solar panels. Basement Systems received grants from the state and federal government that covered about half of the significant expense. The solar panels will be covering the back roof of the warehouse, which measures about 25,000 square feet. The warehouse itself measures a total of 57,000 square feet.

The solar panel array gives off 226 kW of electricity. These solar panels are expected to provide nearly all of the electric power needed in that building the way it is used now. Over the lifetime of the system, cost savings can reach around $82,000. The payback for using this type of technology can be around 30 years, but Basement Systems doesn’t have money in mind for this project. This system can help the company reduce CO2 emissions by 368,492.47 pounds over the course of 25 years, which is the equivalent of planting 100,955.6 trees or taking 30.6 cars off the road each year.
