Seymour company's 'treehouse' makes workplace fun

For a company that specializes in home basements, a treehouse might seem an odd addition.

On the other hand, Basement Systems Inc., a Seymour firm that has tripled its work force in the past decade, doesn't believe in growing down.

So, when it needed more room for its expanding team of computer experts, President Larry Janesky built them an office they could climb up to.

His company is so proud of its homage to Swiss Family Robinson that it plied more than 200 invited guests last week with wine, hors d'oeuvres and door prizes "to celebrate the grand opening of the most unique office interior in the United States."

No one has yet challenged that claim, but it's safe to say this is an unusual layout, even if it's technically not in a tree.
