I am considering purchasing a home that has a moisture problem in the basement. It is built on a hill, and one basement wall actually is built into bedrock that forms the lower part of that one wall (instead of masonry blocks). You can see where the moisture gets in through the bedrock. Is this a problem that can be fixed so that the basement can be completely dry for added living space? How would you do it?
Thanks.
Hi, Thanks for the question. This type of problem can be common in some older homes and something we have dealt with before. The best thing to do is to install an interior drainage system at the base of the wall and then encapsulate the bedrock area with a vapor or moisutre barrier that can be tucked into the drain system. By isolating the rock area the moisture will be trapped and any seepage will be diverted into the drain. If you contact us we can have a Basement Systems dealer in your area come out and take a look at the situation for you.
