My husband and I just got finished building our house. Since October, we have had 2 leaks in our basement walls. It is a poured foundation and it is where the concrete was cut for expansion. The company has told us it is no big deal and they will fix it in spring. Well, we have had unseasonably warm weather and now this is happening in 4 places where they cut the foundation! Does this mean they did not seal it properly? They said that sometimes when the foundation cracks, it cracks so hard that it breakd the sealant too. Is that possible? And if so, to happen in 4 places on 2 sides of the house? What really needs to be done to permanatley fix this? We want to finish our basement, but not if they are going to do something that will not be permanant. Our sump pump works fine, it is just coming in through those cracks and sometimes is like a little waterfall trickling down. Any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not really familiar with these types of expansion joints for residential poured foundations. It's a rear sight to see them in this situation. However the cracks can be fixed and fixed permenatly. You would need an inspection first to determine what type of material was used in the expansion joint and how wide the cracks are. This would help determine what type of repair can be done. We have two of our top dealer in Wisconsin so if you call us at 1-800-541-0487 we can give you the number of a dealer in your area. We also carry many other products you may be interested in for finishing basements.
