Will SantiDry Crawl Space Air System greatly reduce the quantity of mold and mildew particles that flow in the air from the crawl space volume into the first floor rooms of my home? Can you quantify this reduction of the number of particles? I am running a Whirlpool brand portable dehumidifier. I empty this unit on a regular basic, whenever I do not hear the blower running. I guess that my operating the Whirlpool causes more mold and mildew to infiltrate through cracks in my sub-flooring.

Would I achieve a greater reduction in quantity of mold and mildew particles in the first floor rooms of my home if I installed an electronic air cleaner in the header of my heat pump duct system? In this situation, I would not purchase the SantiDry crawl space air system. (I do not now own an electronic air cleaner.) There is confusion in some person's minds about electronic air cleaners versus electro-static air cleaners versus air cleaners that produces ozone and injects the ozone into the header.

An electronic air cleaner has about 30 wires that have a positive or negative charge. (I will assume they have a negative charge.) The incoming air flows close to these 30 wires and becomes negatively charged. I will stop the description of the process because I think you know the remainder of the description.)

Hello,
Thanks for the inquiry. The Sani-Dry, basement and crawl space air system is a system. It is not really comparable to a regular household dehumidifier. The Sani-Dry will act as an air scrubber, filtering 50% of the particles 1 micron or larger. It will reduce indoor airborne allergens, like dust mite fecal matter. It has an external dehumidistat, so in terms of mold, you can regulate how dry you want your space. It is also available with a carbon activated filter. It comes standard with a merv 11 filter. It will dry about 2500 sq ft. Energy efficeint-6.8 amps.
I have one in my home, and it has made a huge difference to us in terms of dust and air quality.
Thanks again.

Dear Crawl Space MD:

I thank you for your repy to my questions. You stated the filter's efficiency was 50% with the ability to stop some 1 micron particles. Why is the efficiency a low value of 50%? What is its efficiency when the particles are 10 micron and larger?

Ken,
The answer is 90% or more. Do you have a current mold problem in your house?
