Hello. I have very minor dampness and water issues in my basement. I know that there are a variety of sources of water and that the first thing you should do to address water problems is look for the source of the water, starting from top to bottom. In my case, the inspector for my new home suggested that one of the drains carrying water away from the downspout from the gutter might be broken (underground). He also suggested installing French drains to generally drain the backyard area. My question is, do you guys start from the top down and also address grading and drainage issues? Also, what if I don't need a sump pump, but I do need other work done?
