I have a finished basement that gets wet during and after heavy rain storms. I have scheduled the installation of a Basement Systems solution, including full perimeter Water Guard system, triple safe pump & SaniDry.

My questions are related to removing sections of my finished walls, drywall over wood studs. I'm told I need to remove 9" of the bottom of the outside walls, so that the floor can be jackhammered out.

Can I remove this part of the wall & still have it stay in place? (The top plates are nailed to the first floor joists) Or should I remove all but every 4th or 5th stud to ensure the walls do not collapse? (If I leave every 4th or 5th stud & a small piece of floor plate, will the installers be able to work around them?

Any input would be appreciated

Usually cutting the bottom of the wall out and leaving the wall hanging is ok, if it was securely nailed. If you feel more comfortable you could leave every 4th or 5th stud. The crew should be able to work around this.

Thank you for the quick response.

I will be leaving every 5th stud in place. Will they remove them the day they arrive?, or will they remove the floor under them to install the full perimeter Water Guard system? Also, how much of the wall needs to be removed? Is 12" enough to provide clearance to remove the floor?

Thank you in advance

I would recommend calling the production department for your local Basement Systems dealer who will be doing the actual installation. They should be able to give you a better idea of exactly what they need.
