concrete slab

I do not have a basement or a crawlspace. Our house is on a concrete slab but the ventilation runs underneath it (or through it?). When you look down the vent it is dug straight through the cement to the dirt although the vents themselves seem like they are a pipe that runs through the slab. So of course it's very dirty and the air quality must be horrible plus bugs and critters or able to tunnel in. Is there something that you can do to seal off these vents?

Yes we have seen this before. What happens is the vent ducts ruct and rot out and bring moisture from the soil into the house along with other things. We usually suggest contacting a Heating and Air conditioning company to take a look. They may be able to repair them or a new system may be needed that is installed through the attic and wall.
