We replaced a 30 year old waterproofing system 3 years ago. Our new system consists of an interior channel that has a gravity drain from each end of your house.
The problem is the growth of iron bacteria (iron ocre) in the system that causes the system to become clogged. Iron ocre is an orange slimy growth that has an oily appearance on top of the water. Water backs up in the channel and also seeps through seams between the old and new concrete.
We had the waterproofer return about a year ago to open up the system and flush out the bacteria. When the system was flushed, copper metal strips were added to system to counteract the growth of the bacteria.
Apparently, now, the bacteria is continuing to grow. We desperately want to find a permanent solution as we are ready to finish the buildout of our basement. We don't want to put out good money only to have to tear this system up again in a few years to flush again.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
