View Full Version : Humidity setting for sealed crawl space

I plan to place a device in the crawlspace to monitor relative humidity. That way, without having to go into the crawlspace I will know if there is a problem with the Sanidry. What should I expect the humidity to be for an encapsulated crawlspace when humidity is being adequately controlled? Same as upstairs in my home?
Thanks,
TW

Tom,
Hello. Good to hear from you again, I hope all is well. The answer is yes.
What I mean is that your crawl space can become a conditioned space, so it would be best if the conditions in the crawl space mirror that of your home. All the wood in your crawl should be dry, wood moisture content of under 18% and relative humidity of under 60%, those are indusrty standards, but I prefer drier than both of those numbers. Your Sani Dry can be set @ in the middle of the dial for r/h near 50%.
Who installed your system for you?
Thank you.

Thanks CS MD.
Please sort out my confusion. The brochure describing the CleanSpace plus SaniDry systems says in regard to mold, "Don't panic; there is a solution that will stop your crawl space from being a hospitable environment for mold. Mold will not grow when the humidity levels are reduced below 40%." So, please clarify the disconnect. Is it 40% or 50% that needs to be achieved? Prior to contracting for installation it would be nice to know what to expect as mold control is the primary concern.
Thanks for your attention to this follow up question. TW

Tom,
I am looking for the information you describe and I do find the following in our brochure, " in general, mold will not grow at less than 50% relative humidity."
I have a Sani Dry in my space and it is set at @ 50% r/h, and I have not had any mold for 4 years since I have owned the unit.
You can adjust the unit to whatever level you feel is best.
Let me know when you have the system installed!
Best regards.

My crawl is 1600 square feet and my sanidry has it at 38% humidity with an outside humidity level at 95 percent. I have the knob just before dry.
My temp down there is 65 +/- 2 degrees
I could probably get it drier but I am not sure that is needed.
