I recently had a "clean space" crawl space system installed in Oregon at a considerable expense. Upon inspection of the work I find that the job is very much incomplete.
The brochure states that with the crawl space system "the crawl space should be fully sealed and isolated from the ground and the humid outside air". It also states that "This system involves installing a 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with polyester-cord reinforcement on the dirt or concrete floor and is epoxied to the walls". Finally, the system is supposed to result in a completely dry crawl space.
When I went to view the final product I find that the insulation under the floor is dripping wet, the vents are covered and not sealed, the LDPE has NOT been epoxied to the walls, and the penetrations through the LDPE are merely taped and hanging loose. The entrance to the crawl space is just a piece of plywood, not a plastic sealed cover, and the membrane is wet to the touch when crawling around in there. The crawl space really is not much of an improvement from what was there previously.
I called the contractor and they are trying to tell me that when they proposed "installing clean space system over dirt floor" they meant merely installing the membrane, not the complete system where they seal it to the walls, and seal all openings, etc. Can someone from Clean Space Systems please verify that the "clean space system" implies a complete and finished system, not just a membrane. I feel like I have been taken for a ride here, and am very disheartened with this product.
