Our Basement Systems dealer is installing a comprehensive Basements Systems/CleanSpace crawl space system including liner, sleeved french drain, dehumidifier, smart drains, sump pumps and battery backup.

I haven't checked the grade, but there is about 100 feet of perforated (holes, not slits) corrugated black drain pipe installed around part of the perimeter under the house. The end furthest from the sump pump well lies below the grade, while that closer to the well is partially above. The pipe, and therefore the trench, I assume, rises and falls along the line.

The contractor has specified there is no need for slope, no gravel has been placed in the trench, and the sections of pipe were installed without regard to the holes. That is, the connection I saw had one section with the holes on top, while the next had the holes on the side (away from the water flow).

What say you?

Hi,
It sounds like you have chosen a complete system. Congratulations! The pipe in the trench is not as important as the trench itself. The trench will do most of the work. The grade is important as water will find its way to the lowest spot. (it flows downhill)
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you.
