View Full Version : False Alarm?

We moved into a home with a Basement Systems sump pump about two and one-half years ago. The previous homeowners said that they installed the system in roughly 1999 (about seven years ago, now) due to issues with water in the basement. Until today, the system's worked fine, and has never given us any problems. However, today the "Wireless Water Watch" alarm started going off. Since I couldn't remember the last time I changed the batteries, I changed them in both the receiver and the transmitter, which was attached to one of the sump pump pipes in the cellar. I also noticed that a red light on the transmitter kept coming on every five seconds or so, which coincided with the alarm sounding. After changing all the batteries, the alarms continued. We have no documentation for the sump pump, but the notice on the cover of the unit says that the alarm will sound if water is within six inches of the top. I removed the four screws in the cover, and checked the water level. It appears to be about 15 to 18 inches from the top of the pump, so I don't know why the alarm keeps sounding. I finally turned off the receiver, but the red light keeps flashing on the transmitter. When I turn the receiver back on, it starts to beep again. Is there some type of problem with this that's causing the false alarm? If so, how can we remedy this because I'd like to be able to use the wireless alarm.

Thanks!

From your explanation there doesn't seem to be any reason for the alarm to be sounding, but with that said, you should contact the dealer who installed the system and have a service person come out to check the system. At the height of the water in the liner, I'm not sure if this is a point where the sump pump should normally turn on and pump the water out, this is another reason I would recommend a service call.
