View Full Version : ThermalDry Wall for crawlspace walls?

Hey,
I am going to have Basement Systems create a clean room in my crawlspace. The floor is concrete and the walls are block. The house was built in 1957 and there never was any insulation under the floor above the crawlspace or on the crawlspace walls. We have hot water baseboard heat. The supply and return headers run around the outside parimeter of the crawlspace. I have insulated the pipe straight runs but not the elbows or couplings.
I am familiar with foil insulation, I lined our attic with it to keep the house cooler in the summer. I would like to line the crawlspace walls with the ThermalDry Wall system in an attempt to reflect the radiant heat from the baseboard heating system back into the crawlspace. My salesman told me the cleanspace wall is tougher material and that is how crawlspaces are treated. We will use the space for storage but that shouldn't damage the walls.
We live in Maryland and I thought the foil on the walls is better than no insulation at all. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Tom Elam

Tom,

The Basement Systems rep was right about the toughness of the CleanSpace (http://www.basementsystems.com/crawlspace/crawlspace_products/crawlspace_vapor_barrier.php) material as compared to the ThermalDry Wall (http://www.basementsystems.com/basement_waterproofing/basement_wall/thermaldry_wall.php) material. That being said, I can't see why you couldn't have it done, other than there will probably be an additional cost per linear foot -- actually sounds like a good alternative in your situation.
