View Full Version : Water and hydrostatic pressure

I have a basement that is about 75% finished and one area that is not. I live on a slight hill with the higher end of the hill at the unfished side of the basement. I never used to have water problems in the basement until my neighbors regraded their yard to channel water away, and now I get water leaking in a few times a year. Mainly during a spring thaw or if we get a lot of rain at one time. There is one section of the wall where the water leaks in between the wall and floor. When this happens, it is not uncommon for me to empty my shop-vac (14 gallon) about 10 times in a 24-48 hour timeframe. When the water is vaccumed up, you can actually see the water seeping in. Is this problem from hydrostatic pressure? Is a sump pump and channeling system a good course of action, and will it solve my problem?

Thanks

Thanks for the questions. your situation sounds like a very common water problem. Most likely it is hydrostatic pressure from surface water building up in the back fill around the foundation. Normally a sump and drainage systems will handle this type of water seepage. I would recommend that you have a Basement Systems dealer in your area come out to inspect you basement. Please call 1800-541-0487 to find a dealer in your area.
