Hey all; Its been awhile since I last posted. My system installed in 5/2006 is still great and no water. Two pumps but no back up battery things. I just rec'd the Basements Systems postcard for an inspection, ok, sounds alittle steep at
$90.00 but that's ok too, its business. (I'm deciding).
Question: The Sanidry Dehumidifier; Are you people really running it 24/7?
Having something run unchecked just unnerves me. I know, every A/C
in the world is running unchecked, but it still bothers me. How is it and does it really improve air quality and prevent mold, etc?
And again, I ask, does anyone flush your system with your back hose, like mopping the floor and just taking the hose and washing all into the interior perimeter drain pipes. Without using some casustic/non-safe detergent? Would be glad to hear back from you.
Sincerely;
BeenWet,

BeenWet,
I read your entry about your SaniDry dehumidifier (http://www.basementsystems.com/dehumidifier/) running 24/7. It should turn itself on and off as needed to keep up with the relative humidity that the machine is set to maintain. Maybe your dial is set too low (meaning down around 20% relative humidity) which would keep the SaniDry running constantly, or maybe the fan is set in the ON position instead of auto.

Been Wet,
I had a Sani Dry system installed in my basement in August 2005. My house is 50 years old and a combination of bad duct work and foundation drainage caused a serious mold problem. The company that cleared the mold problem recommended the Sani Dri. They installed it, turned it on and within 1 to 2 weeks it completely changed the atmosphere in my house. Because the humidity problem was so severe I kept it running 24/7 at the lowest setting - and 5 weeks ago the compressor failed. Luckily there is a five year warranty on the compressor, evaporator and condensor coils. However, it has been a nightmare trying to find someone who will work on it. I first contacted the company that sold it to me and installed it. They told me they didn't work on them and I should contact a local A/C company. I called ten - all said no way. I then called the manufacturer - Therma Stor - and they gave me the name of a local "Basement Systems" contractor - who also told me they wouldn't touch it. I called Therma Stor back and they said no problem - simply pack the thing up and send it back to them for repair. I live in NJ. They wanted me to uninstall it, pack it in cardboard, attach it to a pallet, and ship it to Wisconsin. I then called the "Basement Systems" dealer from which my installer got the unit. No problem they said. They'd be glad to fix it - if I bring it to their shop in Connecticut. I finally pressed the installer to handle this and he gave the name of a local A/C contractor who, after two missed appointments, diagnosed the problem (compressor failure) and agreed to install the new part when I received it from Therma Stor. Therma Stor shipped the new part very quickly but I've had to wait a week for the contractor to come back. It's supposed to be done today. I have my fingers crossed. Not having this unit running for the last 6 weeks has caused 60% to 70% average humidity in my house. Everything's damp, doors don't close and I'm afraid of a recurring mold issue. This is a wonderful unit but be very thorough before buying one. Make sure you have a reliable contractor who will take care of it when it has a problem.

If you are considering buying a Sani Dry dehumidifier - think hard. While the unit is amazing at removing humidity the compressor in mine failed after three years. No one, and I mean no one will stand behind this unit. The manufacturer, Therma Stor has sent me a compressor (under warranty) but I can find no one who will install it. Therma Stor referred me to a local Basement Systems company that told me they are not licensed to work on Sani Dry units. Therma Stor has suggested that I pack the thing up and send it to them for repair! I have called the company that sold it to me and installed it (Indoor Air Care, Stony Point, NY) - they gave me a contractor who has missed three appointments and won't return calls. I called the company that sold it to Indoor Air Care (Basement Systems of Seymour, Ct.) and they told me they are not licensed to work on compressors. I have called upwards of twenty local A/C and plumbing contractors - none will touch this unit. The humidity level in my house has been between 60% and 70% for six weeks now. I HAVE THE PART HERE IN THE HOUSE!!! Is there any help out there????
