Sick of WET BASEMENT!

Hi. As I'm sure I am not the only one with this problem, I'll speak for everyone, I'm sick and tired of dealing with a wet basement! My home is about 55 years old with a poured concrete foundation. Every year during the snow melt, periods of heavy rain or long periods of rain, the basement floods soaking all of our rugs and anything that is sitting on the floor. It then takes a couple of days with a dehumidifier running and us soaking up the water with a machine to get it dry again! It does'nt come from the walls, it seems to come in where the floor and wall meet. Why is it doing this?!!!!! It is so frustrating. We have a "seasonal" bar room down there but I would like to be able to use the room year round with out fear of it being wet, smelling like a basement, or moldy.
Now, I have read all the threads and your biggest response to most of them is "let us come over and help you with your problem". Well thats all well and good but how much will your help cost me? I'm a new parent and money is VERY tight! It seems like projects like this are NEVER cheap! If a simple sump pump will fix it, will I be told that or will I be sold the biggest and best product since I don't know the first thing about waterproofing? Can you tell I'm a skeptic? I just want my family to be able to enjoy another place to hang out without feeling a financial crunch. My home is VERY small and with a new addition, space is valuable! We run our ship on a VERY tight budget.

Netshound, You are correct, the frustration you are feeling is very common to many people. Your water problem is also very common, the floor / wall joint is the number one place we see water enter a home. I'll also recommend having a free inspection and estimate. As far as price goes that is totally up to what we find and what you are trying to accomplish with the basement. The size of the basement and severity of the problem also come into account.
