View Full Version : Lime sump water: What pump to buy ?

A few months ago, the sump water coming out of the basement turned limelike (whitewash) and in a few weeks my sump pump stopped working.
When I took out the pump it was all covered with limelike resudue. There was buildup on the inside of the PVC pipes too.

I think the reason could be the addition last year of a large stone patio which may have a limestone gravel or something.

What kind of pump shall I buy in this situation ?

Does a sewage ejector pump have a better chance ?

This one leaves me with questions.

What exactly is the white residue?
How is the residue getting into the sump?
Where is the water dischargeing to?
How long has it been a problem?
Does your pump run all the time?
Is there anything else draining into the sump (washing machine, sink, etc...)?

Changing the pump to suit this problem may not be the approach I would take. There are different pumps for different applications.

I would recommend you call your local Basement Systems dealer to get expert advice on your problem.
