When I scrapped the peeling, black with mildew paint from my basement walls, much mortar crumbled out. How do I replace the mortar and waterproof with ThoroughSeal? I heard it is the best product. Can I put it over the plaster on my concrete block walls?
Do I do anything special where the floor meets the walls? Is a continuous crack all the way around the house anything to worry about?

The mortor joints should be filled or repointed by a mason. If you are having a real water problem I'm not so sure thoroSeal is the answer. First any type of coating is only as good as the base it is adheared to. This is also negative side waterproofing which will allow water to stay in the blocks.

The floor wall joint is a natural seam created by the construction and it is the number 1 source for water entry onto the basement floor. There is no guaranteed way to seal this joint.

I would have a local Basement Systems dealer look at your basement if you are having a water problem. If there is no real water problem then sealing may help with moisture or dampness.
