Basement. Cinder block wall. House 65-70 ft long, built in 1960. About 20 ft in the middle of wall has bowed. I have been in the house for 20 yrs. and have solved all the problems of water in the basement due to gutters, downspouts, general drainage but the potential of hydrostatic pressure in the ground water (from snow and thaw) has finally got me. What can be done. Excavation on the outside is limited. Deck would limit or prevent the use of a backhoe. I have dug down 2 ft in three places and do not find any cracks or breaks. There does not seem to be any waterproffing on the outside of the cinderblock. Does the wall have to be rebuilt or can it be pulled back into place and anchored. I do not know if there is drain tile at the footing, but putting drain tile in now...where would it drain to. Would a sump pump be of any value. My understanding is that a sump pump drains the water inside the basement. Where might I find additional info. Thank you for your time.
