View Full Version : Stone Foundation in Winter

I have a 95 year old stone foundation that is almost always damp (along with the floor) and has had water coming through it during heavy rainstorms. I've lived in the house 3 years and this is the worst I've seen it, but it's also been the wettest summer we've had so far.

I have 2 questions:

1. I'm concerned about water getting in between the stones and freezing/thawing during our wicked Winnipeg winters and eroding the structure. However, a lot of people seem to say that if the foundation's been there for 95 years and it's still strong, then there's little to worry about. Should I be worried?

2. I've had several quotes to excavate the foundation and waterproof, plus install a sump pit and pump. What would Basement Systems do differently?

Thanks in advance for your help!
