We are interested in fininishing our basement. However our sumppump runs every 4-8minutes. We have had the city out to see if it was city water. It does not test positive for chlorine. The water is clear that comes into the pump. Our neighbors pumps never run. We have been told there may be a spring on our property. How can you find out about this. Our there experts. Do you have to dig the whole yard? How do you fix this? Is there an exceptable amount of time a pump should normally run?Can you raise the sumppump in the well so it does not run as frequently? Our sump pump is extremely loud. It is not vibrating agianst anything. Any ideas for this problem too???? We do have a backup pressurized system. Our house is 7 years old. Thanks

Good thinking to have the water tested and ruling that out. Do you get water on the floor or is the pump cycling time your concern. There is not much that can be done about a spring if there is one. Battery back ups or generators can help insure a dry basement and possibly secondary pumps. Sometimes a pump can be raised enough to alter the cycle time. I would recommend calling your local Basement Systems dealer for an onsite inspection.
