The local installation dealer recently gave an estimate to install a drain along the footer inside of the crawl space to remove water that seems to be coming in between the footer and the first course of cement blocks.
When ask if there would be a water proof membrane in the bottom of the trench for the drain pipe. The answer was no.
When ask if there would be a filter cloth installed to keep debris from entering the gravel and the drain pipe. The answer was no.

Is this standard and if so why?

Thanks

Thanks for the questions, It is not a standard practice at all to line a trench with a waterproof membrane before installing a drain system. It would need to be sealed to the wall or footing to be effective in its intended use. This wouls be difficult and also eliminate the possibility for water entering from below to get into the drain. That water would just run under the membrane.

We also like to stay away from filter fabrics with drain systems. Depending on the soil they can clog or get blocked much quicker then a drain system. In most cases filters are intended to me changed or cleaned periodically. This would be an un servicable filter.
