Potentially interested in doing work to seal our basement/crawlspaces more effectively and potentially other basement work. Recently purchased a home built in 1959. Our thermostat measures relative humidity and had been giving us readings in the mid-70% range. We placed a 50-pint dehumidifier unit in the basement last week and that's helped control the humidity somewhat, but we're still seeing humidity levels up to the mid-60% range fairly often. (Note: I haven't yet hooked the unit up to automatically drain, and it's been filling up 2-3 times a day.) May try to place a whole-house dehumidifier system, but I think controlling exposure to the outside is a better first step to addressing the root cause of our humidity concerns. Also generally want to protect the basement from flooding/moisture/mold.
