Jennifer and Brandon's partially finished basement has a room and an open area. The room is being used by their daughter for her room and they want to turn the open area into another living space. A finished basement requires an egress window, which is a large window that someone can fit through in case of emergencies. The window well has stairs or a ladder in it to assist in a safe exit. The large window also allows a ton of natural light to enter the space making it appear cleaner, larger, and more inviting! 

Dirt crawl spaces often equates to a damp crawl space. Since soil naturally holds water, as it evaporates, it does so in the contained space, leading to musty smells. A plastic liner seems like it could do the trick trapping the moisture from the ground, but what it doesn’t account for is the potential for mold to grow, or for a place for the trapped water to go. That’s why we installed CleanSpace in this Hartford, MI crawl space. The CleanSpace liner is twice as thick as traditional liners, and is flexible and durable. It’s manufactured with an antimicrobial additive to prevent the growth of mold on the liner. CleanSpace allows for water to drain beneath the liner. CleanSpace improves the look and the feel of this crawl space.

A customer called our team because he wanted his crawl space completely sealed off. So we insulated his rim joists to close off  the smallest cracks and seams surrounding the rim joists. Small spaces can exist around rim joists, but after insulating them, they are sealed off. Now airflow is restricted keeping outside air out and inside air in.

Jon noticed minor cracks in the wall where water was seeping through. Water was pooling onto the floor, causing frustrating damage. He called Ayers for waterproofing solutions, so we sent a crew to make the proper recommendations. Our system design specialist on the job site suggested our WaterGuard system and FlexiSpan solutions. First, we installed FlexiSpan to seal the cracks. We apply a flexible sealant to the full extent of the slit, then a strip of porous and flexible foam is placed over the wall. The final step is installing a subfloor drainage system right below the wall so that if water does permeate, it will flow into this drain. This drain is our WaterGuard system in this case. This drain collects water leaking through the walls. The water then goes to the sump pump it's hooked to. We conceal the system with poured concrete. Now Jon is worry-free from further water damage!

The customer called us because after purchasing her house last fall, there was a little water in the crawl space. But after the recent deluge of summer rain, her crawl space had EIGHT INCHES of water in it. Any amount of water is inconvenient, but that much? What a nightmare!

To take care of the flooding, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump along with yards of crosstile to make sure all of the water diverted to the pump and drainage system. She's also ready for the winter with IceGuard and LawnScape outlets attached to the discharge line and vent covers on the crawl space vents.

The new sump pump and discharge will take care of any water in the crawl space, and to cover all the bases, we installed a SaniDry dehumidifier to eliminate the ambient moisture.
