The floor above a crawlspace was cold and was starting to collapse from wood rot. The crawlspace was not encapsulated and as a result was subject to dry rot and was beginning to collapse. 

A vented crawl space does more harm than good when the air outside is humid, damp or freezing cold. The open vent allows that air to enter the crawl space causing moisture, structural, and pest problems!
