Zirconia, NC Crawl Space Encapsulation

This homeowner gave All-Dry of the Carolinas a call when he noticed that his crawl space seemed "wetter" than it should have been. Unfortunately, when our Service Design Specialist came out, the homeowner was exactly right. The relative humidity level in the crawlspace was much higher than it should have been. In order to fix this, our Specialist suggested CleanSpace liner, as well as a dehumidifier.

The "before" photo gives a look into what the crawl space looked like before our crew was able to come in and install our products. The crawlspace definitely was not in the best of shape, there was trash and spider webs all over the crawlspace. The fortunate thing for this homeowner was that there was no standing water in the crawlspace, just a high relative humidity.

The "after" picture shows the same area, but with the CleanSpace installed. This homeowner wanted to make sure they wouldn't have problems with their crawlspace, so they opted to have a full encapsulation, which basically means that everything but the very top of the walls and ceiling was covered with CleanSpace. Doing it like this prevents water or water vapor to get into the crawlspace through the floors and/or wall.

Crawlspace Repair - Swannanoa NC

"Customer had signs of moisture in her crawlspace causing a musty odor, mold, and foundation problems. Design Specialist Jonathan Geddie went out to give a free estimate, assess the customer's concerns, and present the best solution for her space. Our crew then installed our Cleanspace system, a SuperSump pump to discharge water, and a dehumidifier to maintain healthy air quality and keep the humidity down. The customer was very pleased with the work and is excited about the quality of her home now that the crawlspace is clean and dry.”

Everlast Door installed in Williamston, SC Crawlspace

This was a small part of a large crawlspace encapsulation in Williamston, South Carolina. If you'd like to see and read more about this home and exactly what we did to it, check out the case study that is linked below.

The "before" photo shows what the entrance to the crawlspace looked like before our crew installed any products. As you can see, it does not look like it is in the best shape, but more importantly, you can see how much open space there is around the door. When doing a crawlspace encapsulation with CleanSpace, you need to keep as much outside air from coming in as possible. With a door like this, you might as well have no door at all.

The "after" picture shows off the Everlast Door that we use for crawlspaces. This door covers the entire opening to the crawlspace and creates an airtight seal. This seal keeps any outside air from coming in from the opening.

Transformations happen one step at a time. In the case of this Williamston, South Carolina crawlspace, transformations happen in stages. This is the striking first stage here pictured on the left. This is how it looked before our crew set to work. Water runs the length of the last liner. The earth beneath it pokes through its thinness. In that same image to the right, the dirt floor is completely exposed and wires fall along its surface. It’s ugly. It’s messy. And it isn’t helping anyone. This is a crawlspace in dire need of a savior. Take a look at the pipe further back into the picture. The liner that supposedly acts as a barrier is thrown over it. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce that this liner is not secure in the least.

Move on to the right picture. Is it even the real space? Yes. Yes, it is. It’s brighter—cleaner. The floor as well as the wall is covered in our patented CleanSpace liner. This is a 20 mils thick, reinforced liner that is nearly impossible to tear. The material is even applied to the piers and supports to strengthen the seal. There’s nothing quite like it. Meanwhile, the space can also readily be used as a storage place, a capability it only recently achieved.  This, of course, is thanks to CleanSpace. What’s also particularly special about CleanSpace is that it acts as the barrier your home needs from the earth. There are no holes or slim openings. It is, quite literally, perfect for damp crawlspaces.

Williamston, SC Dirt Floor Crawlspace Covered with CleanSpace

Crawlspaces with a dirt floor are a magnet for water. Exposed earth carries with it water vapor and other natural gases you do not want floating throughout your home. Because of this, the crawlspaces are extremely humid which causes people to think to vent them. However, what a lot of people don’t realize is that the venting keeps the humidity exactly the same as it is outside. The problem here is that when it’s humid outside, the crawlspace will be humid as well. There’s no way to win.

This Williamston, South Carolina crawlspace was experiencing all of the above and more. The solution looks fantastic. Let’s zoom in on the “after” photo. What we have here is the complete install of CleanSpace a thick, 20mils liner we always use in crawlspaces. It acts as a barrier and shield from the earth. It’s white so you can instantly see how well the products are doing.
