There are several reasons why an unsealed crawl space can be a problem. For this crawl space in Kalamazoo, the dirt floors and cinderblock walls were the main areas of concern. Since dirt naturally holds some water, in a crawl space this water evaporates from the dirt into the air making the space damp. This humid air can cause the HVAC system to run overtime, resulting in higher energy bills. The block walls are also problematic since they’re so porous, meaning they readily suck up water from the ground, causing wet walls, which evaporates into the air.
It’s clear to see the reasons for installing CleanSpace in this home’s crawl space. Not only does this liner provide a moisture barrier from the ground and the walls, but also it’s incredibly durable and is made with an antimicrobial additive. Now these homeowners can be confident that they’ll have a dry crawl space for years to come.
When water seeped into the homeowner's unfinished basement, he ignored it—until heavy rain and melting snow reached his family’s cherished entertainment space. Realizing the risk, he called Ayers for help. Our inspection revealed that his cinderblock foundation was allowing water to infiltrate the basement. We installed a WaterGuard® drainage system, CleanSpace® encapsulation, TripleSafe™ sump pump, and extended discharge line to redirect water away. Now, CJ’s basement is dry, secure, and ready for his family to enjoy—just in time for the holidays.
Austin was in need of a better system in his crawl space that would keep it cleaner and protect it from any outside pests. After calling Ayers for crawl space repair options we had a crew come out for a free inspection and from this we recommended our CleanSpace solution. CleanSpace is much more durable and waterproof than a regular store bought tarp as it holds a vapor barrier property. This feature protects the crawl space from excess moisture that leads to pesky problems like mold or bacteria growth. Austin was thrilled with the transformation!
As you can see in the before photo, this Kalamazoo, MI crawl space had definitely seen better days. So much moisture was leaking in, it was causing the wood foundation to rot. And only making matters worse is the fact that moisture and organic material – like wood – are two of the prime ingredients for mold growth. To put a stop to the moisture leaks and give the crawl space some much-needed protection from mold, the crew installed our Energy Savings Package.
The package comes with two products perfect for the fight against mold and moisture: CleanSpace Vapor Barrier and SilverGlo Wall insulation. Our CleanSpace Vapor barrier is exactly what the name implies, a plastic liner that won’t permit entry to moisture or water vapor. The liner is not only impenetrable to moisture, it’s also made of inorganic material, meaning mold can’t grow on it. While CleanSpace protects the crawl space floor, SilverGlo Wall insulation will keep out any moisture that tries to enter through the walls. The panels were attached in front of the previous block walls and will also help regulate temperatures throughout the home. This crawl space can now say goodbye to mold and moisture for good.
It’s clear to see that this crawl space wasn’t very inviting. Crumbling insulation and ceiling made this space unusable and likely to leak. CleanSpace, however, helped solve these problems. This durable plastic liner provides a moisture barrier and prevents mold growth. Since its made of so many layers of cord-reinforced polyethylene, it can be walked and won’t rip. This not only allows the homeowners to enter, but transforms the area into a useable space for storage.
