A concerned homeowner in Grosse Pointe Woods, MI contacted HomeSpec Waterproofing and Foundation Repair because water was getting into their basement. They were concerned about mold damaging their property and wanted to get any and all issues fixed before retirement. Cleaning up water every time they wanted to do laundry or change the furnace filter in their basement was not in their plans for the future. Additionally, they would need a dry space for storage to protect their items.

Keith, one of HomeSpec’s senior project managers, went to the home and provided a free inspection. While looking for the source and cause of the water intrusion, Keith noticed there were cracks in the basement walls which meant there were structural components to consider as well. He took thorough notes and measurements before sitting down with the homeowner to decide on a repair plan together. Keith proposed addressing both the wall cracks and waterproofing needs at the same time. The HomeSpec team would fill the cracks and then use CarbonArmor® Wall Reinforcing System to prevent the walls from moving any further. They would also install a WaterGuard® interior drainage system to capture any water and route it to a sump pump. The homeowner agreed to this plan and planned on a crew later seeing it through. This crew was led by a foreman named Jon, and the homeowner was so impressed with Jon and his team that they called in to compliment their politeness and amazing work ethic!

Cracks in the basement floor of a Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, home were growing in both size and frequency. A senior project manager named Keith went out to the house and met with the homeowner. They described the symptoms in the basement and expressed worries about there being problems with the foundation, especially if the problems worsened with time. Keith thoroughly investigated the basement and prepared ideas for a repair plan. He presented them to the homeowner, and together, they came to an agreement. Depending on the severity of damage behind the drywall, using a CarbonArmor® Wall Reinforcing System and PowerBrace™ Wall Repair System would prevent walls from bowing and cracking any further. The homeowner then scheduled a team, led by a foreman named Jim, to install those products. They were happy with the final results and were reassured that the foundation issues would not get worse.

HomeSpec already had to repair damaged walls in this Saint Clair Shores, Michigan basement back in 2020 because they were severely cracked and bowing. Recently though, the homeowner Stephanie and her dad were removing wall panels from another room in the basement and found the same exact issues – bad water damage, bowing walls and large cracks in the blocks. 

Foundation repair expert Ryan Loop and waterproofing foreman Jerry Blevins lead the crew to complete this repair. They stabilized and braced the foundation walls with the PowerBrace Wall Repair System and Carbon Fiber Straps. A WaterGuard Perimeter Drainage System (aka French Drain) was installed to curb the water intrusion. Sections of the walls were covered with our BrightWall Vapor Barrier Panels to insulate and direct water into the drainage system. 

Stephanie and her father were once again very happy with the results of their newly repaired basement! They don't have to worry anymore about losing property value because of the damage or worry about the issues worsening. 

A Saint Clair Shores, MI home was owned by former residents of the state. Because they still owned the home, they decided it would be a good idea for their father to move in; however, it would have to be repaired first. The floors were uneven, there were noticeable cracks, shifting, and water was causing damage. He also suggested waterproofing the walls to prevent further leaking and installing an interior drainage system made with WaterGuard® to route any water to a storm cleanout. While the finished basement may have looked prettier before the repairs, the homeowners can rest easy knowing their father lives in a stable, secure, and dry environment.
