A homeowner in Bremen, Kentucky had noticed for some time that his foundation was settling. There were cracks on the outside of the home's foundation which indicated that it needed a permanent solution to stop the process from further damage to the home. What had caused the foundation to crack was the moisture in the wooden beams that held the floor up. One of the columns had thin wooden boards stuffed to keep the floor partly stable. The crawl space needed the foundation lifted and encapsulated. 

One SmartJack was used to replace the concrete blocks and wooden boards that previously attempted to hold the foundation.  Next, the CleanSpace and drainage matting combination is set to be completed. The drainage matting will catch water from the ground and store it in the dimples to prevent the CleanSpace that is installed on top from bubbling and flooding underneath. The water that does come through the dirt ground will be carried to the SmartSump. Once the home was stabilized and encapsulated, the homeowner was elated by the transformation. 

Having a waterproofed crawl space means that you can have a worry-free mind every time it rains. A couple in Boonville, Indiana had reached out to Healthy Spaces after visiting one of our social media posts about crawl space encapsulation. The encapsulation had interested the couple in waterproofing their crawl. On the day of the inspection, there were signs of water coming into the crawl space and it was humid. 

The two openings were tightly secured with new access well such as the EverLast crawl space door. To control the amount of water that came up through the dirt floor, the dimpled polyethylene membrane matting is sprawled out. The matting directs the water towards the sump which will then carry the water out and away from the home. CleanSpace is fastened to the upper parts of the walls and on top of the drainage matting. CleanSpace has multiple layers of plastic with different characteristics of flexibility and puncture and tears resistance. The dream of encapsulating the homeowners' crawl space had finally come true and we were happy to be a part of it. 

Homeowner John B., in Albion, IL started noticing water building up in his crawl space. If left alone, humidity and excess moisture can lead to mold growth, wood rot, and pest infestations. Our team first had to go in and perform mold remediation. Next our team installed a waterproofing system in the crawl space that included a SmartSump Crawl Space sump pump system and EZ Flow Drainage. The last step was to install a durable vapor barrier made of a 20-mil material similar to a pool liner called CleanSpace. CleanSpace® 20 mil vapor barrier is puncture and tear resistant. An anti-microbial agent is blended into the liner to kill mold and bacteria. John will now have peace of mind knowing that his crawl space in Albion, IL is clean and dry. 

The crawl space in this Morganfield, KY home was not a place you wanted to be. It was wet and growing mold, giving the area an overall damp feeling. Since crawl spaces are the lowermost points of a home, the "Stack Effect" explains that air flows in your home from bottom to top, meaning that the mold in the crawl space can be easily breathed in by those upstairs, causing a serious problem. Homeowner Ann A. knew that her crawl space wasn't in the best shape, but she had no idea how severe the mold really was until System Design Specialist, Scott Schaum, completed an inspection on it.

Following the inspection, Scott sat down with Ann and explained the best route to take regarding cleaning up the crawl space and making her home a healthy place to be. He recommended a mold remediation treatment, and she agreed. In these photos, you can see a crawlspace that is being treated for mold. Once the mold treatment was complete and the surfaces were thoroughly scrubbed, the debris was rolled in black plastic and removed from the crawlspace. Then, new black plastic was laid along the floor for the second phase of mold treatment. Once that is complete, the black plastic will be removed again and CleanSpace will be installed. Before the CleanSpace is adhered to the walls, the homeowners elected to insulate their crawlspace foundation walls with SilverGlo!

In these two pictures, you can see the bare foundation walls had been covered with backerboard sheets, which are very low R-rating for insulation. In the After picture, you can see the shiny surface of the SilverGlo! Not only is it an R11 rating, but it's complete with the shiny layer to reflect back heat/cool into the crawlspace. Once the crawl space system, complete with CleanSpace, is installed, the homeowners will notice energy efficiency and savings!
