Just because you never go down into your crawl space in Iowa doesn't mean it isn't affecting you and your entire house.
A dirt and unconditioned concrete crawl space under your Iowa home is a very bad idea. The earth has very high humidity in the soil. This water vapor moves easily into the crawl space and upwards into your house environment, as your home is a system, and every part of that system plays a role that affects the rest of the structure. If your crawl space begins to rot, grow mold, or experience structural problems, this will extend to every part of your home.
To make your home healthier, cleaner and more energy efficient, your crawl space needs to be encapsulated - separated from the earth and sealed from outside air.
Basement Systems, dry basement and crawl space technology, developed a ultimate solution to dirt crawl spaces - the CleanSpace System - the ultimate defense against wet crawl spaces in Iowa.
CleanSpace Crawl Space Encapsulation System The CleanSpace system completely isolates your home from the earth, dramatically reducing the humidity level in the air and, in some cases, eliminating mold growth, rot, and critters from your crawl space. It not only makes the entire house healthier, but also makes it more energy efficient.
Basement Systems, Inc has dealers who install the CleanSpace System throughout your state, offering, Crawl Space Insulation in Iowa, including Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Sioux City, Waterloo, and the surrounding areas.

I was so impressed by Bill and his crew. I have worked in residential construction and with many different sub contractors and have never met a more professional, organized, considerate team than Bill's. He and his crew are definitely a great asset to your company. The system is being put to the test right away as it is raining now as I type.

The installation crew was courteous, talkative and fast. Great pains were taken to keep the work area clean. Robbie Stoutenberg is obviously respected. I could see that he is taking care to teach his crew craftsmanship and customer relation. They are a very well organized trio.

Comment: We have squirrels in the crawlspace and heard in the walls. I removed the panel behind the tub in the bathroom and can see into the crawlspace. It appears they are using it for storage and/or nest. Also when buying the home the inspector mention the venting of the crawlspace and how it may need opened/closed depending on winter/summer. Interested in getting the crawlspace sealed, dry, and properly vented.

Comment: We have a musty smell in our house, have recently installed a whole house dehumidifier which has reduced the smell, but it is still there a little. We have an addition with a crawl space over a portion of the house, and I am curious what our options would be to seal-off the crawl space, and if there is a way we can know for sure whether that is the source of the musty smell, or whether that smell can come from somewhere else in our house.

Comment: I have a very old house and half of the basement is a crawlspace. Virtually no support underneath and I would feel much better if it had some of these strategically placed in the crawlspace for support
