For this Peaks Island, ME homeowner, their crawl space was an active nightmare. Their crawl space was home to musty odors, mold growth, and rodents, and the floors above were freezing during the winter. Tired of their crawl space troubles, the homeowner decided to take action and call TC Hafford Basement Systems for help. A System Design Specialist met with the homeowner for a free estimate and worked with them to design an encapsulation specifically for their crawl space.
This crawl space needed to be sealed and insulated to keep critters and cold air outside, where they belong. CleanSpace with Drainage Matting was first installed to create an inorganic barrier between the crawl space and the ground. Drainage Matting has large dimples to create a gap, which allows groundwater to be channeled without penetrating the CleanSpace. Even though water is currently not an issue for the homeowner, they opted to have a Sump Liner installed. That way, if water becomes an issue in the future, a sump pump can be easily installed without the need to modify their encapsulation system. Spray Foam was applied to the crawl space walls to insulate the area and sprayed on the rim joist to lock in the CleanSpace and provide further insulation.
The homeowner's crawl space is fully encapsulated, and now that it is insulated, their floors won’t be cold in the winter, and any critter that called their crawl space home will no longer be a problem.
Homeowners on Peaks Island, Maine wanted to insulate their damp crawl space. We first encapsulated the area with CleanSpace vapor barrier, which seals out moisture and is treated to prevent mold growth. We then installed Spray Foam insulation on the walls and rim joists. Spray Foam is a great insulation product for basements and crawl spaces because it not only seals out cold air, but is also water and mold resistant. Traditional insulation products like fiberglass lose their effectiveness once they get damp. This crawl space is now protected and will improve the energy efficiency for the whole home.
A Yarmouth, Maine home was under contract to sell when an inspection report showed a failing vapor barrier in the crawl space, and recommended that insulation be installed as well. We removed the old plastic and debris to prep the crawl space for installation. We use a two-step encapsulation system, with drainage matting and CleanSpace vapor barrier. Drainage matting controls the groundwater beneath the CleanSpace, and CleanSpace seals the moisture out so the crawl space stays dry. Spray Foam insulation was installed on the walls to improve the energy efficiency of the crawl space and home above.
This Livermore Falls, ME, homeowner had been dealing with a musty smell coming from their crawl space. Moisture and high humidity in a crawl space can not only lead to musty smells, but mold and mildew growth can be dangerous to breathe in. The homeowner needed help, so they called TC Hafford Basement Systems for a free estimate. The crawl space needed to be encapsulated to keep moisture and critters out, so CleanSpace with Drainage Matting was installed. Drainage Matting gets laid on the ground first to protect the CleanSpace and create a channel for groundwater to flow to a sump pump. CleanSpace is a durable vapor barrier that is attached to the walls and creates an inorganic barrier between the outside elements and the interior of the crawl space. Keeping moisture out prevents musty smells, and the homeowner no longer has to worry about damage being caused in their crawl space.
When a homeowner in Farmington, Maine, reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems, their crawl space was in desperate need of attention. Standing only about four feet high, the area had a dirt floor and excessive moisture, creating an uncomfortable and potentially damaging environment for the home. The homeowner was concerned about the long-term effects of the damp conditions and wanted an estimate for encapsulation.
After assessing the situation, our team determined that the best course of action would be to install a CleanSpace liner along with drainage matting to effectively control moisture. We also recommended a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to maintain optimal humidity levels, along with spray foam insulation for added protection. The transformation was dramatic, turning the wet and unusable crawl space into a dry, clean, and energy-efficient area. The homeowner was extremely satisfied with the quality of work and the lasting benefits to their home.
