One of our customers in Frankfort, Michigan contacted us referring to issue that he had with crawlspace. He wanted to insulate it and waterproof it from the outside environment. We gave him free estimate and then decided to install CleanSpace in their crawlspace. CleanSpace is a 20 mil thick plastic liner that fits to the crawl space to completely seal the home from the earth. Polyester cord reinforcement allows for a lot of durability, to make it last longer than the home will. This liner also contains an antimicrobial additive to prevent mold. This Portage, MI customer became interested in encapsulating and insulating his crawl space after noticing a musty smell traveling through his home. Smelly crawl spaces are usually a sign of moisture and humidity mixing together and giving rise to gross air. As bad as that smell is, it’s not even the worse part. These adverse conditions can mean another unwelcome guest in your crawl space, mold. And unlike the uncomfortableness that comes from musty smells, mold can mean real structural damage to your home. To make sure that didn’t happen to this home, the crew traveled to Portage and got to work on the encapsulation.
The white liner in the after photo is a moisture barrier called CleanSpace. Designed to be impenetrable by vapor or humidity, it’s the perfect product to keep out that smell. Any outside air can have a negative effect on crawl spaces, so it’s best to keep that air where it belongs – outside. The vapor barrier was paired with bright SilverGlo wall insulation and air tight vent covers - both not pictured - which are designed to keep only quality air inside. With a fully enclosed crawl space, smells, energy efficiency, and humidity won’t be a problem anymore.
This home built in the 1940’s in Portage, MI received a crawl space transformation thanks to CleanSpace. Originally a lake cottage, it’s likely that this space experienced some leaks, creating moisture in the space. Before encapsulating the crawl space, our team installed drainage matting so any that any water that enters the crawl space can flow underneath the liner directly to the sump pump. After the matting was in place, a flexible, tear resistant CleanSpace liner was fitted in the space. The liner is manufactured with an antimicrobial additive to prevent mold growth and stops water vapor. Its bright white color dramatically transforms the crawl space aesthetically while completely sealing the area off from the earth.
In 2014 Christine had us make her crawl space more energy efficient with some SilverGlo insulation and frothpak in the rim joists. Now a few years later, we're back to help with a crawl space encapsulation using our CleanSpace vapor barrier which helps to as much harmful water vapors out of the crawl space as possible. Also, we're laying TerraBlcok insulation on the ground to add greater energy efficiency. Finally, we added a SmartDrain to help remove any moisture from the space without harming the building materials and a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier to keep the space as dry as possible so that Christine is breathing good clean air on the floor above and mold is not an issue.
Mike and Cathy had water and moisture constantly entering their crawl space, so they called our team. We installed CleanSpace, a plastic sheet material used as a vapor barrier to restrict all moisture, outside air, and pests from entering your crawl space.
