Making Sure the Mice Don't Get Back Into the Home in Pennington, NJ

We've returned to this home in Pennington, NJ to check on the mice activity in the crawl space. After were inspected the home and replenished the bait in all the rodent bait stations, it was time to exclude the areas of the property that the mice were using to gain access into the home. What areas were they? They were several gaps around multiple utility pipes around the property.

To properly exclude the mice, we stuffed each opening with Xcluder® Fill Fabric. Mice hate the taste of metal and this will deter them from the areas as well as form a firm and tight barrier to keep the rodents out. Afterward, we sealed the Xcluder® Fill Fabric in place with a premium, waterproof adhesive. Now the home is properly excluded from mice.

Flying Squirrels Chew Their Way Into Apartment in Pennington, NJ

A couple of flying squirrels had chewed through the bottom of the roof vent to gain access into this apartment in Pennington, NJ. As you can see from the pictures, the did quite the damage. First, we installed a one-way device over the access point (the roof vent), temporarily enclosed the area off with hardware cloth, and set up several baited devices. The one-way will allow the flying squirrels to safely leave the area but prevent them from getting back in the same way.

In a short amount of time, we successfully retrieved all the flying squirrels! We then removed our devices, installed sturdy metal flashing over the access point, and relocated the flying squirrels to a new, safer environment.

Yellow Jackets Expanding Their Nest in Pennington, NJ

After spotting some yellow jackets by his backdoor, this homeowner in Pennington, NJ immediately called Cowleys for help and we were sent out. Yellow jackets are aggressive, territorial wasps, with distinctive yellow-and-black coloration, that are known for their propensity to sting anyone and anything that they perceive as a threat, such as those who venture too close to their nests or their food.

When we arrived, we found the nest and realized that it was about the size of a baseball, but the yellow jackets were starting to make it bigger. First, we treated the nest with a knockdown dusting product, which will exterminate the yellow jackets almost immediately. A short while later, we removed the nest, disposed of it, and then applied a liquid residual application to this area. This product will eliminate any yellow jackets that return to this area as well as prevent them from building another nest.

How to Keep The Nuisance Birds Out of the Vents in Pennington, NJ

This homeowner in Pennington, NJ had a bit of a nuisance bird issue - a starling had taken up residency in her exhaust vent and started to build a nest. Fortunately, we were sent out to stop it from completing its' nest. To do that we installed a customized one-way device over the exposed exhaust vent and temporarily enclosed the area with hardware cloth. The one-way is a device that allows the starling to leave an area safely but is designed to prevent it getting back in. After some time had passed, we had safely removed the starling from the property.

We then carefully removed all of the nesting debris and then disinfected the exhaust vent - in order to eliminate any bird mites that may be lingering around. In order to properly exclude the starling, as well as any other nuisance birds, from getting back into the exhaust vent, we installed a DryerWallVent® over it. The DryerWallVent® is made out of heavy-duty galvanized steel and its large opening and angled damper, along with integrated magnets to keep it closed when not in use, provide maximum airflow efficiency for safe venting.

Birds & Bats Getting Through the Fascia in Neshanic Station, NJ

This homeowner in Neshanic Station, NJ had a problem with both nuisance birds and bats roosting in her attic. How where they getting in exactly? The fascia board had rotted and was falling apart.

First, we safely removed all the bird nesting debris and the bat guano in the attic. Afterward, we disinfected the entire attic with a solution that targets bird mites. Bird mites are parasites that feed on the blood of birds. When birds leave their nests, the mites are left behind without a suitable host for their next blood meal. They will make their way into a home, and once inside they will take over, climbing all over your walls, ceilings, and beddings. To make matters worse, bird mites are tiny and semi-transparent, so they are extremely difficult to detect.  Bird mites are the main reason why extreme care is needed when removing a nest. The last thing you want to do is disrupt the mites that are crawling in and around the nesting material.

Lastly, to prevent any future wildlife intrusions, we installed sturdy, metal flashing over the entire fascia board.
