Keeping Your Home Stabilized - Rhododendron, OR

This homeowner found some concerns with the support in their home and decided to inspect their crawl space. In certain areas, doors weren't closing properly and the floor felt like it was sagging. This was occurring due to the the wooden posts in the crawl space being water damaged and deteriorating. Once the wooden posts absorb moisture, they begin to rot and mold. This makes them unstable and unable to properly support the home. At John's Waterproofing, we are able to fix this issue with SmartJacks. These are steel adjustable piers designed to stabilize the home in areas where the wooden posts no longer can. They are made of materials that won't rot or grow mold, which helps make them durable during any situation. Each year they can also be adjusted to ensure the home is staying steady and supported. Now, this homeowner feels much safer in their home knowing that the foundation is supported and secure.

Removal and Replacement of Concrete Driveway - Portland, OR

This homeowner called us first to discuss waterproofing her crawlspace, and then asked if we could also repair her concrete driveway. We let her know that we are experts in both of those fields! After completing a thorough inspection, and presenting her with a no-obligation quote, the homeowner decided to move forward with waterproofing her crawlspace, and with the removal and replacement of her driveway. After finishing waterproofing her crawlspace, we began working on the driveway. It was damaged past the point of being repaired, so we chipped out and removed the old concrete. Next, we laid down our forms, and then poured the new concrete. After it solidified, we gave it a beautiful broom finish! This homeowner was very excited to have her crawlspace waterproofed, and with a spectacular new driveway to boot!

New Concrete Sidewalk Entrance to Business - Portland, OR

This business owner was eager to have a concrete sidewalk placed on the side entrance to their building before the rainy season began. After researching, to make sure they selected the best company for the job, they decided they would hire John's because of the highly positive reviews they read online. They called us, letting us know that they wanted this work completed ASAP. We quickly sent out our Design Specialist to the building, to take measurements and provide a free quote. The business owners were pleased with the professionalism and expertise of our Design Specialist, as well as the reasonable quote, and they asked us how quickly we could start the job. We let them know that we would start and finish the job before the rains came, as they requested. The day we were scheduled to complete the work, the forecast showed rain in the late afternoon. Knowing this, we brought along the materials we would need to protect the freshly poured slab from the rain. Early that morning, our concrete crew arrived and got straight to work. First, we built the wooden concrete frame, laid down concrete dobies for extra support, and placed the rebar. Next, we poured the concrete into the frame, and gave it a nice broom finish. We knew rain was coming later that day, so we built a rain cover out of PVC pipe and plastic tarping, protecting the newly finished sidewalk from the rain. We made sure the cover was tight and completely sealed - providing an excellent defense against the imminent weather. After the concrete was completely solidified, we removed the rain cover, revealing a beautifully finished new concrete sidewalk entrance to the side of this building. This business owner is thrilled to have a concrete side entrance to their building, so that both themselves and their employees can safely enter from now on without tracking in so much mud and wetness.

Fortifying the Foundation Wall in Portland, OR

This basement had a vertical crack that was separating the foundation wall in the basement. As the bow got worse, the floor began to crack and pieces were loose. The owners began to remove the broken pieces of the floor, but it kept breaking apart as pieces were removed until a large section of the floor was gone. To address the stability issue and the floor, John's Waterproofing was called upon. We installed a form along the foundation wall, installing steel and concrete into the form to fortify the new foundation section we would pour. Once dry, the form was removed and what was left behind was a stable and healthy wall to support the home.

Complete Removal and Replacement of Concrete Stairwell - Portland, OR

The concrete stairwell leading into the basement of this home was rotting and damaged beyond repair. Our Design Specialist came out to inspect the stairwell, and offered the homeowner the best solution - complete removal and replacement of the existing stairwell with new, strong concrete. This proposed solution was exactly what the homeowner had in mind, and he was excited to get on our schedule! When our crew of concrete experts arrived, they first cut out and removed the entire existing stairwell. Next, they dug out and compacted the area, to ensure that the new stairwell would be poured flush with the surrounding concrete patio. With the area prepped, they built the forms for the stairs and the 2 retaining walls on each side of the stairs. After pouring the concrete into the forms, they finished each stair step with 4 tread lines, and gave the rest of the stairwell a nice broom finish. The entrance into the basement of this home has now been made safer and more aesthetically pleasing by the concrete experts here at John's!
