Our downstairs crawlspace was dank. We learned that no vapour barrier had been applied prior to the concrete floor being poured, so over the years moisture wicked through, and left the whole room smelling musty. That smell permeated everything we stored down there. I researched options and determined that Island Basement Systems has a simple but sophisticated technology that might solve the problem. They also have a great Better Business Bureau rating. I called for an estimate, and their very accommodating staff responded promptly, did a thorough assessment, determined that they could indeed fix the problem, and provided me with an estimate that they said was good for at least a year. I scheduled the job by mutual agreement with IBS, and Giovanni and Steve did the work in just under three days. They cleaned out the old fibreglass insulation, vacuumed the rough concrete floor, laid and anchored a tough plastic vapour barrier, and sprayed foam insulation between all the exposed studs, from the edge of the vapour barrier up to the “ceiling” of the crawlspace. This completely sealed the room, making it waterproof and “heatable”. It is now clean, dry and bright. I am very happy with the outcome! Throughout the entire process Giovanni and Steve worked diligently. They appeared on site at the times they said they would, they worked solidly and efficiently throughout each day, and they cleaned up the work area at the end of each day. They were very pleasant to deal with, knowledgeable and accommodating. They answered all my questions about the process, materials, progress, etc. politely and comprehensively, and went the extra mile to ensure that any concerns I had were effectively dealt with. I also had a number of conversations and e-mail exchanges with Allyson, at the ISB office, before and during the project and found her to be very pleasant to deal with. The bottom line is that I am delighted with the final result and very pleased with ISB staff, products, and process. Steven, the installer is an excellent worker.  There was almost nothing to clean up, he worked long hours and finished in two days (as promised) even though there was the extra work of installing the sump pump which was not expected to have to be done.  Thank you!

Furnace doesn't come on as often since installation was done...so it must be working well!
