Crawlspace Entrance in Central City, KY

We've all seen the usual crawlspace door--plywood, old palettes, or scrap wood nailed together to cover the crawlspace opening. Even if the cover is painted or covered in shingles, it's usually warped and degraded by the sun. The metal hinges are usually rusted and in many cases, the hinges have pulled out of the siding. These old crawlspace doors lead to many problems besides just being ugly; they also allow pests, mold spores, and moisture into your home. Since these doors are not airtight, cold winter air will enter creating energy efficiency issues and increasing your heating bills.

Healthy Spaces offers several access door options to their homeowners. These are made entirely out of plastics and foams. Once installed, they create an airtight, waterproof seal between your crawl space and the cold or humid air outside.

This new crawl space doors is called a Turtl. It is constructed of rugged, durable plastic. It can be secured from the outside and it will not warp or fade in the sun. A Turtl is inexpensive, easy to install, and keep your home looking great!

Musty Smelling Crawl Space in Central City, KY

Chris and Shannon from Central City, KY, had some plastic down in their crawl space but every time it rained or the crawl space would get damp, they could smell a musty, wet mud smell throughout the house. They also complained of having daily headaches, sinuses burning, and would occasionally feel nauseous. New Vapor Barrier in Livermore, KY

Our client in Livermore, KY, would get water in their crawl space every time that it rained. They also knew that their vapor barrier in the crawl space would need to be replaced as well. After seeing a TV commercial for Healthy Spaces, they gave us a call for a free, no-obligation inspection. After our System Design Specialist, Damon inspected their home, he found a couple of other issues that would also need taken care of.

Because of the high moisture in the crawl space, it caused mold so our team would first need to remediate that. Next, our team sealed all his vents and completed encapsulated his crawl space. Encapsulating your crawl space prevents water vapor and humidity from passing through. CleanSpace vapor barrier has a mold-resistant additive that won't support mildew or mold growth. The combination of these products ensures the crawl space will remain a clean, energy-efficient space and gave our client peace of mind knowing that his crawl space will stay dry!

Wet Basement in Odon, IN

This Odon homeowner purchased this home and was previously told that there was waterproofing around the perimeter of the home. They would continue to get small amounts of water in the basement until they removed the downspouts from going into the ground. That solved the water issue but now their basement continued to have that smell. They decided that they needed to give Healthy Spaces a call to solve the problem.

Our System Design Specialist, Damon Cheatham, quickly came to evaluate the situation. He concluded that the crawlspace would need SilverGlo, a CleanSpace liner, and a SandiDry.

SilverGlo Crawl Space Wall Insulation is able to resist heat conduction and boast a radiant barrier, which reflects heat back into their crawl space for ultimate energy savings.

Next, we installed our CleanSpace liner on top of the SilverGlo. This 20-mil poly-reinforced crawl space liner prevents water vapor and humidity from passing through. Keeping their crawl space dry, and free from mold and rot.

With a plan set, our production team came to the home to start the project.

Mold Removal in Crawl Space Huntingburg, IN

Our client in Huntingburg, IN was in the process of purchasing a new home that got flagged on the inspection report for issues in the crawl space such as the insulation was falling, moisture, and there was mold on the floor joists.

Let's first talk about the fiberglass insulation between the joists in the crawl space and the problems it can cause. The ground is constantly breathing. It takes in water during rain and evaporates back up into the atmosphere. This is the reason we install a vapor barrier under homes in order to keep the moisture down. However, without a vapor barrier, this condensation then moves up through the dirt floor and into the crawl space. The exposed insulation over time will soak up the moisture, eventually causing it to sag. And the whole point of installing insulation under the floor is to prevent cold air from the crawl space from entering the home. So once the insulation begins to sag, it causes an air break, allowing that cold outside air a direct path up through the floorboards, making the insulation useless. The gaps also allow the moisture to reach organic materials such as the wood subfloor, creating a perfect environment for mold to grow.

Now let's talk about what our team did to restore peace of mind for our clients by creating a healthier environment for their new home! Sean and his team first needed to remove all the insulation from the crawl space. Next, our team remediated all of the molds and installed a new vapor barrier, along with sealing up the crawl space vents. By installing a new vapor barrier and sealing the crawl space vents, our client now has a crawl space that's safe, clean, and healthy!
