Clifton VA crawl space sump pump service visit

Our service technician Brent Bevens visited this Clifton VA home for annual follow up service on a crawl space to check on the sump pump we installed last year.  He removed the unit from its base/liner to clean and test it.  Here is a nice visual of the before and after.  Sump pumps by nature can get dirty and potentially clogged from sediment and dirt in the water they pump out of a home which makes our annual service all the more valuable.

Clifton VA Crawl Space Transition

This Clifton VA crawl space originally had gravel floors with black plastic materials covering it in an effort to "manage" the moisture and wetness in the space.  Traditional methods like that do not really work and can often create more problems than it eliminates.  Plastic material,  covering cold, wet floors can actually trap moisture below and add to the musty, mildew heavy smells in the space and promote poor air quality in the home above.  Our production team began this transformation by covering the gravel with the brown drainage liner shown in the "before" photo.  This keeps moisture and air below the eventually sealed floor covering and allows air to move and help the moisture evaporate.  Clean Space was later used across the entire surface and up the crawl space walls.

Fairfax VA Crawl Space Insulation and Moisture Control

This Fairfax VA homeowner wanted to get their crawl space upgraded.  They had excessive moisture which had lead to mildew and mold in parts of the crawl space.  Open vents to outside were allowing air, dust and allergens to come in from outside and were making the air quality of the home poor.  Our Home Performance Sales Pro Jason visited and was able to identify the right products and services to help improve things.  Our production crew removed the old insulation, plastic floor covering and other dirty materials.  They sprayed the space with a botanical cleaner to prevent mold growth, covered the floors with Clean Space, covered the walls with Silver Glo insulation panels, air sealed the panels using Zyp Foam and then used Spray Foam to seal and insulate the rim joists of the home.

Fairfax VA Crawl Space Insulation and Moisture Barrier

This crawl space in Fairfax VA was wet and nasty with a musty smell.  Open air vents allowed for external weather and temperatures to impact the air inside of the home.  Dust and allergens were passing into the crawls space through the vents as well.  After removing the old insulation and plastic covering the floors, our production team installed a layer of insulation on the ground along with a moisture barrier.  This was followed by covering the floors and walls with Clean Space material and then Spray Foam insulation being applied to the crawl space walls and rim joists.  Eliminating uncontrolled air flow and insulating the space from the outside in helped improve the air quality of the home.

Vienna, VA Crawlspace Transformation

This Vienna, VA home Was suffering from an uninsulated exposed crawlspace that was at risk of developing serious water damage and mold growth. Our sales professional Pedro went out to the property to perform his full home inspection and give the homeowner the best solutions to their problems. He found the biggest problems to be the ventilation that allowed uncontrolled unconditioned air to go directly into the crawlspace and the lack of insulation in the crawlspace that, alongside the ventilation, was creating the perfect environment for mold growth and water damage. Pedro explained to the homeowners that the best option to fix these daunting issues would be to fully encapsulate the crawlspace. When the homeowners agreed our services crews went out to the house to get started installing the vent covers and clearing out all the dirt and debris within the crawlspace that was preventing them from installing the new insulation. Then when the obstructions were clear they got to work taking down the old useless plastic tarps that had been the only source of insulation in the crawlspace previously. Finally, the crews got to work installing the CleanSpace insulation system. They started by laying down TerraBlock floor insulation that prevents any moisture underneath from passing through the barrier. Then they installed the CleanSpace cover on the walls and top of the TerraBlock as an additional layer of moisture protection. Finally, they used spray foam insulation on the rim joists to fully encapsulate the crawlspace.
