Kurt realized his basement windows didn't open wide enough for an escape from the inside. This was a serious safety hazard, so he researched his options and called Ayers for help. Our crew of experts stopped by his house and evaluated the space. They recommended installing an egress window engineered for easy escapes during emergencies. Egress windows are built to hold back heavy soil and water and include a polycarbonate safety cover designed to be stepped on without breaking. Having an emergency exit is a big weight off Kurt's shoulders!
This couple was in the middle of redoing a lake home in Irons, MI. With only the basement left to tackle, they gave us a call. The previous block walls were leaking and maybe just a bit too bright in color. With plans to sell the house after the remodel, they figured why not handle the leakage and change colors all at once. Our BrightWall panels are perfect for partially finished basements, as they can be fastened directly in front of old walls like they were here. Once installed, the panels allow for water drainage to occur behind them. The water from the leaks will flow down the walls and into the drainage system that was installed slightly below floor level, a WaterGuard perimeter system in the case of this home. This way the basement looks great while continuing to stay dry.
The homeowners called us because a few years after they noticed their floors being uneven and unstable, the southwest corner of their house started showing signs of settlement as well.
It took twelve SmartJack posts to stabilize the crawl space, but now everyone in the house can rest easy and walk freely on the floors above.
After a home inspector pointed out that the crawl space in this home needed a new beam, the owners decided to give us – the crawl space experts – a call. They weren’t completely unaware. They had noticed that one of the rooms above was sloping downwards.
To fix this problem and hold together the structural integrity of the home, the crew used 4 different SmartJacks. By placing the jacks underneath the floor joists - the crawl space ceiling- - and adjusting them to the proper height, the SmartJacks were able to raise the foundation back to its original and stable level without replacing the beam. SmartJacks can support over 60,000 pounds so this repair is a permanent solution.
