This home had old fiberglass that had absorbed water, falling completely down onto the old vapor barrier and held water. It was a wet mound of insulation. To address this and insulate the hold properly, the homeowners called up John's Waterproofing. After learning about encapsulation and how the products used are made for the crawl space environment, they were happy to move forward and are pleased the living spaces smell clean and fresh now that the wet mess has been addressed.
This homes crawl space was coated in layers of dust. The old vapor barrier was twisted out of place, and the homeowners were concerned about what this would do to the air in their home. When your crawl space is the starting base with the health of your home it becomes an important component. This crawl space had sagging insulation and musty smells that could be detected within the first floor of the home. The homeowners knew it couldn't be healthy and saw our article about how 50% of the air you breathe in your home comes from your crawl space. Our inspector went out and saw moisture was being absorbed into the fiberglass insulation which caused it to be weighed down and in some places actually fall off. We cleaned out the debris and did a crawl space encapsulation to prevent this level of moisture from happening ever again. Our encapsulations are done with a vapor barrier called CleanSpace and is 20 mils thick and stop mold growth underneath. The change in the quality of air was more than worth it to the homeowner and now their crawl space is protected for the life of the home.
This homes crawlspace smelled like mold and was to tight for the homeowner to inspect on their own.
