Flooded basement: Massachusetts receives about 40 inches of rain annually, fairly evenly distributed throughout the year; summers can bring thunderstorms, averaging around 30 days of thunderstorm activity per year. With this amount of rainfall, water seepage has become a common problem in all types of basements in Massachusetts.
Other wet basement signs: There are many possible sources for pooling water, damp basement walls or flooring, and high humidity. These include: rusty basement windows, poor grading around the foundation, leaks through cracks in the foundation, saturated soils, simple plumbing failures, and poorly functioning drainage or sump pump systems. A basement already musty and damp is ill-prepared for the next bad rainstorm! Basement waterproofing can address the underlying issues, prevent future water damage and improve the indoor air quality.

Project Location: Easthampton, MA 01027
Comment: My sump pump runs every couple of minutes or so when it rains heavily or with melting snow. When it drains It appears that some of the water is not being discharged from the well. Instead it is drained and then comes back in. I have no flooding in my basement at the moment but I am afraid with how often it is running and how much water appears to be coming into the well that if something goes wrong with the sump pump in the future I will be in a mess.

Comment: Stone Foundation of 1880s home is leaking water after the last storm. Basement floor has half inch of water all draining towards existing sump pump. Looking for a solution so my basement does get wet every heavy rain.
Project Location: South Hadley, MA 01075
Comment: My basement has a sump pump. I've paid for drainage in the backyard, but the hill a high water table make it difficult. I recently ripped down a wall that the previous owners put in that started to finish a portion, and the effluorescence is pretty bad there, and exists throughout the basement. I also repaired three leaky windows. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the existing walls. Possibly a better sump pump system is worthwhile as I seem to go through pumps every 3-5 years. There are a few places where water still seeps in where the floor meets the wall on very wet days.
